What is a QR Code?

( SeanTiner.com ) A QR Code is a matrix barcode or two-dimensional code, readable by QR scanners, mobile phones with a camera, and smartphones. The codes consist of black boxes arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded in the QR code can be a text message or website address. During the 1990s QR Codes became popular in Japan as a marketing media. For example, a print advertisment or billboard can a display a QR Code that sends users to a website with additional product information or a text message with a discount for the particular product, service, or brand. According to the Mobile Marketing Association the amount of smart phones in the United States is expected to reach 50% of the entire marketplace by Q3 2011 up from 20% today. As more U.S. consumers become familar with QR codes and have smart phones equipped with QR readers, I will explore how artists can incoporate them into various creative media to generate more of an interactive viewing experi

As mobile phones continually become a vital communication channel to connect with a target audience, it's important for brands, organizations, and marketing managers to understand how to leverage this platform. This summer, I registered the Mobile Marketing Association's Certified Mobile Marketer Course . I'm excited that this weekend I successfully completed the program, passed the certification course and am officially a MMA Certified Mobile Marketer, Tier 1.
