Fortune Cookie Advice

Frequently, the adages received after a Chinese meal often mimic the advice bloggers share.  To highlight my point, I asked the Twitter community to share some of their favorite fortune cookies messages:  @ gsik : "Trust your intuition. The universe is guiding your life." @ LisaHoffmann : "He who throws dirt is losing ground." @ Tabz : "Flattery will go far tonight." @ gadkins 1974 : "Many people are seeking you for your sound advice" Similar to how reading a fortune cookie ends a meal with a feeling of promise, blog entries can provide readers with feeling of hope. Bloggers have the responsibility of constantly informing their audience about the latest happenings, trends or events that relate to their blog. Although writing to a global audience is a tireless responsibility, the opportunity allows writers to instigate thought and provide hope beyond the traditional one sentence fortune cookie adage. As the audience grows, opportunities for the...

Netiquette

What is proper Netiquette = etiquette on the net? A short list of Do's and Dont's in our digital age. Do's Do respond to emails. It's frustrating when you send an email and the recipient does not respond. Yes, one word confirmations are okay. Do use recent a picture for your profile avatar. If you can't remember when you took the photograph, it's time to update. Do send an email one day before a meeting to confirm. You'll be surprised how professional you appear. Do include links to sources you use. Don'ts Remember what happens in Vegas stays there. Don't post outrageous pictures of your friends without their permission. Make people take responsibility for their voice. Don't allow anonymous comments. Would you open your neighbor's mailbox? Don't forward personal emails without the sender's permission. Don't write an email or blog post when you are angry. Cool off and take a walk around the block. You'll be thankful the next ...

When enough is enough.

Jason Calacanis , one of the internet's most influential tech bloggers, recently "retired" from blogging. He promises not to pull a Micheal Jordan or Jay-Z and come out of retirement. Calacanis cites that blogging has become too impersonal, polarized and would rather distribute a small eNewsletter. Will this be a new trend for other bloggers? As companies, brands and individuals create a presence across Web 2.o media, including Facebook, Twitter and blogs, how long will that existence last? Facebook recently celebrated its fourth birthday, but will users keep tagging pictures for the next 5, 10 or even 20 years? Will Perez Hilton keep posting celebrity gossip for the next decade? Maybe, but what if a user wants to leave a social network or stop updating a blog? What's the proper etiquette? Do you deactivate your account, make a formal announcement or simply don't do anything? Calacanis' retirement announcement illustrates the importance of keeping the conversa...

Web 2.0: The Bridge of Life

The joy of life comes from connecting other humans by building bridges to their lives. The construction occurs in many shapes and magnitudes. Sometimes it is in the form of a handshake, phone call or simply a smile. Our electronic age allows bridges to be exponentially constructed, viewed and traveled. The overall length and size of our bridge is no longer limited to the tangible realm. Distances are eroded. Our joys are shared via email, blogs, vlogs, podcasts and personal profiles. We have constructed a hyper reality that is constantly connecting the world. Our horizons are limited to our imaginations as our passions, joys and stories construct the bridge of life.

Thinking About Starting A Blog? ...Try Micro-blogging

...Want to open up a little more? ...Jump on the Web 2.0 bandwagon? ...Be famous for 15 minutes (or at least seconds) ? It's amazing how easy it is to start a blog and share thoughts, insights and opinions. According to Technorati there are over 112 million blogs and 175,000 are created each day. Although the numbers are impressive, I still believe that the 80/20 rule applies to a majority of these blogs. ...Where the top 20% of blogs receive 80% of the traffic. It is even more lopsided at the top. For example, Perez Hilton , Forbes' #1 Internet celebrity , received over 1.4 million visitors in May 2008 (according to compete.com ) . Whereas, Seth Godin , #4 on Forbes' list , received 25,000 visitors in May 2008 (according to compete.com ) . It seems that as we move beyond Web 2.0 the need to personally connect applies more and more to the blogging world. Micro-blogging (think short blog entries) allows users to write brief text entries (usually less then 200 characters)...

In the words of the people....

( kkindc.blogspot.com's opinion of "Faces"). Yesterday, I discovered KK's opinion of my original "Faces" Series. In her words, "I saw the photo- which he created through a digital process, and thought it was really cool. I learned more by checking out his blog and then his website. I am really impressed by his artistry as well as his reasoning for doing the series." I agree that a minority of the people were a little confused about the series at first, because I purposely selected some people that I did not know to well. I wanted to reflect upon how anyone can access information that is posted online. From old girlfriend's parents to company recruiters, you never really "know" who is viewing your social profile in this Web 2.0 era. Additionally, I desired to connect faces digitally as a reflection for the serendipity of social networks. Overall, my Faces series continues to be successful and I receive daily requests for perso...

International Readership

Image
(April 6, 2008 Screen shot of Seantiner.blogspot.com) I'm excited to learn that my blog now has trackable international readership. Alexa, a free global website traffic monitor, is tracking a split between Australia and The United States, with approximately 5% and 95% respectively. (I'm know there are friends in other countries viewing, it's just not tracked by Alexa, yet.) Thank you again for your interest in my artwork and creative ideas. NOTE: I am only investing my time and reaching a diverse audience through the power of Web 2.0 to promote my blog.
