Basilica di Santa Maria Del Fiore (C) Tiner The Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore or "Basilca of Sant Mary of the Flower" is the most popular church in Florence due to its size, location and history. Also known as Il Duomo di Firenze or "Domo" the church was started in 1296 and finished in 1436. It's located in the heart of Florence and only a few blocks from Lenardo di Vinci's famous David  sculpture.  The Basilica's brick dome is the largest in the world every constructed and tourists are able to hike up a spiral staircase to enjoy views from the dome's peak.  If you plan on visiting Florence, it's highly recommended to tour the interior of the Domo and if you are feeling brave, take the hike to its top!
