Last weekend, I competed in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon in San Francisco, CA. The course is a 1.5 mile swim from Alcatraz Island to shore, 18 mile bike ride and 8 mile run. I really enjoyed the event.

Last Friday, I presented The Mark P. Tiner 2009 Memorial Scholarships at Laguna Beach High School. I presented two Mark Tiner Memorial Scholarships, which are awarded to students with good character in the amount of $750 each. I also presented The "Big Tiny" $1,000 Spirit Award that is annually presented to a graduating male senior from LBHS's volleyball team. Additionally, I gave each recipient a signed aerial photograph of Laguna Beach High School that I captured from a helicopter. (2009 The Mark P. Tiner Education Foundation Scholarship Presentation) I'm honored that earlier in the week, I awarded The 2009 Mark P. Tiner Education Foundation Financial Needs Scholarship to a graduating high school senior from La Quinta High School (Westminster, CA). This year, we received over 70 applications for the $1,000 scholarship. The recipient was selected for her dedicated volunteer work, exceptional academic excellence, and strong desire to pursue her college studies. She will be the first generation to attend college from her family. In addition to the $1,000 scholarship, I awarded the recipient an original photograph of mine. BMW's Expression of Joy Website From Andy Warhol to Roy Lichtenstein, several prominent twenty-first century artists have created unique advertising concepts for BMW. The prominent German automobile manufacture establishes relationships with renowned artists to accelerate its product line in the same gear as fine art. In the past, the aesthetic relationships have allowed the BMW brand to display its automobiles adjacent to works of fine art in modern museums. Recently, BMW commissioned renowned South African artist Robin Rhode to create a unique fine art painting to help market the 2009 Z4 roadster. With the collaboration of actor Dennis Hopper, Rhode used the Roadster as his paintbrush on a 100 x 200 ft white canvas. As the Roadster spun around the canvas, Rhode controlled the colors and how much paint was applied with a remote control. The 2009 Mark P. Tiner Education Foundation Board Meeting Last week The Mark P. Tiner Education Board met to select a financial needs scholarship recipient. Over 70 graduating high school seniors from throughout Orange County, CA applied for the scholarship. It's rewarding to continue my brother's memory forward and help a well deserving student pursue higher education. The board will present the scholarship next month.

(Pre-Race) Yesterday, I ran in the Surf City 1/2 marathon with my cousin and a few friends. I really enjoyed running in the event and seeing the enthusiasm of over 18,000 participants. (Run for Mobility Wheel Chair) Proceeds from the race benefited Run for Mobility , a nonprofit that donates wheel chairs constructed out of outdoor furniture and mountain bike wheels to the needy. The wheel chairs cost around $50 to construct and yesterday's event raised enough money to supply over 11,000 wheel chairs! Surf's up to that!
