A Timeless Gift: Casey Parlette’s Hermit Crab Sculpture Inspired by Driftwood



During our babymoon in Santa Barbara last summer, I discovered a weathered piece of driftwood—its textures and curves shaped by the ocean’s relentless rhythm.

I decided to surprise my wife by commissioning a friend and Laguna Beach artist, Casey Parlette, to create a hermit crab sculpture inspired by the driftwood. Casey is known for his nature-inspired sculptures showcased at the Festival of Arts and various public installations. His talent for capturing nature’s beauty felt perfect for creating something timeless.


Casey transformed the driftwood into a hermit crab sculpture, symbolizing resilience, adaptation, and growth—qualities we cherish as our family evolves. This piece is more than just art; it’s a keepsake meant to be passed down, a lasting reminder of our journey together.
