Mobile Marketing Association Forum: Los Angeles

North America Managing Director Mobile Marketing Association)

Last week, I attended the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) Forum at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA. The Mobile Marketing Association is the premier global non-profit trade association established to lead the growth of mobile marketing and its associated technologies. The association has more than 700 member companies, representing over 40 countries from around the world.

Five times a year, MMA industry leaders and partners meet in different global metropolitan cities to collaborate, discuss and share new mobile trends, strategies, and technologies. At this particular forum, we discussed effective communication strategies that brands, organizations, and marketers can leverage to connect with different consumer personas.

Although SMS or text messaging is still the most pervasive mobile technology, new technologies, such as digimarcs, are gaining traction with niche sectors of the mobile landscape. Additionally personal mobile search response services, such as Cha Cha, continue to gain mainstream interest.

One statistic that surprised several of the attendees is the emergence and anticipated growth of the Android handset. Although Apple's iPhone has gained a large percentage of the smart phone industry, the Android continues to gain popularity with its lower price point, multiple carrier coverage, and open developer network.

As marketing budgets continually allocate more funds to mobile marketing, it important for brands to fully integrate their mobile plans into their integrated communication strategies.
